Abstract: This webinar will explore the current religious and political climate of higher education along with her ever-evolving ideological frameworks. The session is geared for college and university students, professors, instructors, and staff and will introduce innovative and creative ways to remain resilient and awake in our work environments. The NASW Code of Ethics is reviewed and applied to case vignettes of faith-based discrimination in the workplace.
Presenter Marian Swindell, PhD, MSW, is an active Christian on faculty at Mississippi State University-Meridian for the past 23 years. She teaches a Christian-informed perspective in the BSW program. She was the first teaching professor in social work in the entire history of Mississippi State University to not only be awarded tenure but also full professorship. She is active in her church and community. More importantly, she is the mother to two Christian-living sons, Nicholas, 18, and Michael, 16. Nicholas sings in the church choir, and Michael reads scriptures on Wednesday nights or Sunday mornings at his church.
Learning Objectives – Participants will be able to:
  • Identify 3 or more reasons why Christians are now considered an At-Risk population.
  • Apply the NASW (2021) Code of Ethics to themselves as students and employees who are considered At-Risk.
  • Describe the culture of Christianity and identify 2 reasons why additional curricula content should be included in At-Risk Populations courses in BSW and MSW programs
Kim Parker, EdD, LCSW, is the facilitator or host for the webinar. This hour-long live interactive webinar will include a 45-50-minute presentation preceding a live Q&A discussion session where attendees can interact with the presenter. Some presenters will allow for interactions during their workshop as well.
 
CE Information: To receive the CE certificate for this webinar, pay an $8 processing on our Square website. The payment deadline is the day before of the live event. No refunds are available for cancellations by the registrant. Should ACHHS need to cancel a live webinar event, paid registrants will be given a choice of receiving credit toward a future comparable CE event or a full refund. Each participant who desires to earn a CE certificate must
 
1) sign in and out of the chatroom with your full name, license and state, 
2) stay for the whole session,
3) complete a session evaluation form after the session, and
4) pay the $8 CE processing fee.
 
With the completion of #1-#4, a CE certificate will be emailed to the attendee within 3 weeks of the evaluation submission date. A recording of this webinar will be available to ACHHS members in the members-only archive on our website. However, at this time, we are not offering CEs for recorded sessions.
 
*The Association of Christians in Health and Human Services, #1899, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 9/11/2024 – 9/11/2027. The social workers completing this course will receive 1.0 continuing education credit.
